Introduction

Applications are invited from suitable qualified interested parties to fill the position indicated above.  The candidate will be expected to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels in the Faculty of Commerce, Administration and Law in the Department of Economics, undertake research in the relevant field and will assist with undergraduate and graduate research. The candidate will also assist with some administrative duties, as well as community engagement projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Competence and/or demonstrated potential in communicating knowledge and facilitating teaching and learning in a lecture, seminar, tutorial and/or practical or laboratory environment; and in assessment practices (including online assessment practices); coupled with a potential to undertake research;
  • Potential to undertake administrative responsibilities at departmental level;
  • Sound interpersonal skills;
  • Satisfactory teaching performance, commensurate with the nature of the post to which the applicant was previously appointed;
  • Ability to develop online teaching and learning programmes as well as, related comprehensive assessments;
  • Ongoing research activity and dissemination of research findings, including a reasonable record of publications in accredited and/or internationally-recognised research journals, commensurate with the applicant’s discipline and the nature of the post to which the applicant was previously appointed;
  • Ability or potential to supervise research at Honours level and to develop research capacity;
  • Service to the University either at departmental or institutional level;
  • Community engagement activity;
  • Potential to undertake administrative responsibilities at departmental level;

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Commerce (M Com);
  • Specialist knowledge in any three: Econometrics, Mathematical Economics, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics;
  • Additional Specialisation in at least one of the following: Development Economics, Finance, Agricultural Economics, Industrial Economics, Labour Economics, Transport Economics, Resource Economics or any other equivalent;
  • Ability to apply any three of the following programs: Stata, Eviews, Rats, Matlab, SAS, SPSS, Limpdep, R or any equivalent program;
  • Specialist knowledge in the relevant discipline;

 

Minimum working experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience of teaching in institution of higher learning;
  • Record of successful Supervision of academic projects of undergraduate and graduate students;
  • Scholarly publication record within the field of Economics;
  • Experience on Moodle, Blackboard or any online teaching experience;
  • A qualification in the assessment of learning at NQF Level 7/8, or an equivalent teaching qualification or proof of studying towards this qualification.v
