Position Description:
Employee Relations Manager: Isando

To manage, lead and guide the Isando ER team to ensure timeous, professional, consistent and credible delivery of ER consulting services across all countries in which TFG operates.

To play an advisory role to the team and line managers when required on matters relating to legal compliance with employment law, employee misconduct and disciplinary action, poor performance incapacity, employee grievances and external dispute resolution (including representation at the CCMA) across brands/divisions within TFG and TFG Africa.

In addition, to consult on more complex cases, assist with ensuring that TFG is compliant with legislation governing employment, assist with research and give input into the development of policies and training material as well as capacity building of internal customers.


  • Provide day to day leadership and management of the ER team in Isando
  • Ensure the team provides high levels of customer service and adheres to all SLA’s
  • Monitor team performance
  • Provide ER guidance to team and line managers when required
  • Assist with consulting on ER matters when required
  • Attend to CCMA/external dispute resolution forums when required
  • Ensure external support in relation to ER matters is available in African countries
  • Review outcomes of enquiries to ensure fairness and consistency
  • Ensure all systems (HRSM, erNavigator) are utilised correctly
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement across all areas of ER
  • Keep abreast of developments in employment legislation and case law and share knowledge with team
  • Assist with facilitation of ER training when required
  • Ensure business compliance with labour legislation and case law
  • Assist SPA: ER Domain with research and drafting ER related policies
  • Provide input into development of ER related training material
  • Ensure that ER capacity is built on an on-going basis


  • Minimum 5 years functional ER experience
  • Minimum 2 years leadership and management experience
  • Solid experience of retail industry
  • Experienced at representing at the CCMA
  • An HR qualification is essential, and any ER/management/leadership related qualifications advantageous
  • Knowledge of employment law and labour legislation governing the retail industry in SA
  • Knowledge of employment law and labour legislation in other African countries is advantageous
  • Solid knowledge of internal and external ER processes Knowledge of external dispute resolution processes
  • Experience dealing with unionised environment is advantageous
