Compassionate, service driven leader with excellent problem solving ability and high energy levels required to lead Medical ICU Department.
This highly organized Registered Nurse will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating improved quality nursing care by ensuring compliance to professional and ethical practice.
  • Monitoring and ensuring that nursing care and service delivery is implemented and practiced within a multi-disciplinary quality assurance team.
  • Coordinating capacity building, mentoring and training.
  • Ensuring that the unit is providing safe, cost effective quality patient care in line with Clinical Governance strategy and evidence based practice
  • Evaluation of the patient’s journey through patient experience and stakeholder input
  • Evaluation of nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes
  • Effective communication with patients regarding their care
  • Promotion of health and well being
  • Ensuring the principles of infection prevention and all standard precautions are adhered to
  • Promoting good public relations with patients, relatives and visitors
  • Identifying quality improvement opportunities and ensure appropriate strategy and Quality Improvement initiatives are developed and measured
  • Implementing group quality initiatives
  • Fostering an environment where staff are aware of the role they play in the provision of quality patient care and their value to the organization
  • Fostering an environment in which roles and responsibilities are clearly understood and accountability is taken
  • Management and supervision of staff and all related issues
  • Monitoring staff attendance and/or absenteeism and ensure action is taken accordingly
  • Enforcing staff dress code within and on leaving the Hospital
  • Coordinate the nursing activities within the unit
  • Orientation of new staff and students
  • Ensure ongoing performance appraisals for all staff
  • Facilitating staff development both personal and professional
  • Coaching and mentoring of staff
  • Management of all costs emanating from the department
  • Ensuring correct billing, stock management and purchasing
  • Building and maintaining effective relationship with doctors, staff, patients and visitors
  • Effective management of doctor and patient complaints and priority to improve customer care
  • Investigating all negative incidents and ensure appropriate capturing on IMS
  • Monitoring safety standards in accordance with the Machine and Occupational Safety Act (Act 6 of 1983).
  • Report all accidents and incidents to Line Manager / Safety Representatives
  • Ensuring compliance with protocols, policies and Acts
  • Ensuring that all equipment is in working order and properly maintained

 Qualification & Experience required:

  • A relevant nursing qualification registered with SANC (Diploma in General Nursing/ B Cur Degree)
  • Post Basic qualification in ICU advantageous
  • Diploma in Nursing Management would be an advantage
  • Registration with SANC as a Registered Nurse
  • Compliance with the SANC code for a Registered Nurse and all applicable health care legislations
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience as a RN
  • Work experience in MICU/ SICU/AICU
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Knowledge in Disaster Medicine
