Journalist – News24


News24 is looking for an excellent permanent reporter to report from Johannesburg. The reporter must be able to produce relevant, compelling and factually correct news, feature and multimedia content for News24 to deadline each day.


 Job Outputs:

  • Investigate and research content for news and/or feature stories;
  • Provide 2-3 diary ideas for general and enterprise news stories on a daily basis;
  • Provide 2 diary ideas for premium stories on a weekly basis;
  • Write 2-3 quality and factually accurate news and/or feature articles on a daily basis, adhering to strict deadlines;
  • Produce breaking news according to News24’s standards and norms;
  • Write newsworthy, target-market-specific articles and multi-media content (rich social media posts and mobile video);
  • Alert news editors to potential breaking news developments on your stories and others;
  • Generate feature ideas;
  • Adhere to the quality, style and content standards as laid out and required by News24;
  • Maintain & grow a diverse network of contacts across the province and at a national level;
  • Comply with the requirements of the South African Press Code;
  • Live tweet rolling news stories, events and briefings;
  • Will be required to take photographs and shoot mobile video.

 Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 3-4 years’ experience;
  • Diploma or degree in journalism, languages or media studies experience writing for a mainstream newspaper or magazine or reporting for an online or wire news operation or a broadcast news service; 
  • Good general knowledge;
  • Insightful knowledge of South Africa’s socio-political landscape;
  • Knowledge of topical issues and current affairs;
  • Valid driver’s licence;
  • Being able to work from home when required will be advantageous;
  • Clear and demonstrable passion for news media.
