Summary

An opening has arisen for a Surgical Assistant in Johannesburg.

The incumbent will assist in the development of Trauma as specified.

Key Performance areas:

  • Cover cases as required in theatre
  • Provide 24/7 Key Customer Service and support to surgeons
  • Build and maintain strong relations with customers
  • Getting information – observing, receiving and obtaining information from all relevant sources
  • Inspecting equipment and material to identify the cause of or potential errors, problems or defects
  • Updating and using relevant knowledge, keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to the job.

Key Functions:

  • To provide technical assistance to surgeons and theatre nurses
  • Ensuring correct instruments and supplies are ready and available to surgeons or surgeons assistants as required prior to theatre
  • Competently do a surgical scrub of hands
  • Wash Smith & Nephew equipment using germicides
  • Maintain a sterile field during surgical procedures
  • Works closely with the Sales Reps to ensure that target is achieved each Period.

Contacts with People:

Internal:

  • Sales Consultant – obtaining, giving and dealing with order numbers and invoicing
  • Sales Manager – obtaining and providing any relevant information
  • Loan Set Controller – Follow up on loan sets and managing stock queries
  • Customer Services – providing implant usage information for billing purposesExternal:
  • Orthopaedic surgeons – attending cases, consolidating usage, conducting workshops and product demos
  • Theatre Nurses – Working with theatre nurses to ensure that cases run smoothly, ensuring that product usage is accurate after every case

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education:Matriculation

    Registered nurse an added advantage

  • Experience:Theatre nurse an advantage

Competencies Required

  • Good communication skills in the required language, mature personality to enable him/her to deal with medical professionals on an acceptable basis
