Manage the strategic development and design of processes and procedures in order to remain compliant with Customs and other Government requirements. Full responsibility for the optimal use of financial, physical, human and information resources. Support people and processes in the development of solutions to acquire and retain customers by balancing customer needs and compliance. Professional advicce to internal and external client with regards to new and upcoming legislation changes. Effective management of KZN customs department and compliance matters.
Qualifications & Experience
* Grade 12 / Matric * Suitable qualification in terms of the Customs and Excise Act, Rules and Regulations (Preferably a tertiary qualification in International Customs Law and Administration) * Successful qualification of Leadership programmes * Extensive experience in the forwarding and clearing industry at operational as well as management levels. * Managing, leading and developing staff at different levels of the organisation. * Applying the legislative parameters of the Customs and Excise Act, Rules and Regulations at different levels throughout the supply chain. * Extensive exposure and interaction with SARS Customs and other Government organisations at all levels.
* Manage and optimise the OTIFNE (On Time In Full No Errors) performance within the Business Unit, ensuring client satisfaction * Retain and acquire business through exceptional service delivery and relationship building * Manage all Customs risks and complince parameters as dictated by relevant import laws * Manage work flow and productitvity within customs department * Atttend all SAAFF and related industry meetings * Ensure adherence to legal requirements e.g. Customs, OHS, Road Transport, Aviation security, Other Government Agencies * Ensure full adherence to the prescribed policies and procedures within the department * Ensure operational effectiveness, efficiency and quality control in the team * Identify potential risk areas and implement mitigation strategies for the department * Evaluating feasibility of projects, manage implementation thereof * Maintain relationships with Customs and clients (internal and external) * Collaborate with other departments as necessary to meet or exceed client requirements, contribute to the development of new service offerings, take advantage of sales opportunities, optimise processes, and improve cooperation * Continuously investigate additional value added products and process specific for customer needs * Liaise with KAM’s and Service Consultants regarding potential client requirements * Contribute towards the development of client proposals and tenders * Manage Human Resources performance and development to optimise utilisation * Manage information to support and improve the efficiency and client satisfaction * Indetify and provide training on customs matters to entry clerks * Ensure all staff are informed and trained in any new customs related legislation * Provide input towards overall departmental budget.
