Duties & Responsibilities

My client, a well-known manufacturing company in Durban is looking for a Category Specialist: Information, Communication & Technology (ICT) to join their team. You will be required to provide support in implementing projects, manage tenders, perform analyses and prepare presentations related to operating plans and cost reduction strategies.

 

Duties:

  • Generate cost savings through the development and execution of category strategies
  • Manage the procurement category process from compiling, issuing and evaluating tenders to finalizing the contract
  • Assist in management of on-going supplier relationships
  • Develop criteria and processes to monitor supplier compliance and performance
  • Support internal customer projects for sourcing and purchasing needs
  • Support and drive cross-functional efforts to achieve standardization, substitute or eliminate components adapt new supplier technologies and reduce purchased costs
  • Negotiate contracts and approve prices, delivery/payment terms and quality requirements
  • Establish supplier performance metrics meet standards and supply objectives
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers, end users and internal cross functional teams
  • Ensure category is procedurally compliant
    • Ensure documentation for audit and SHERQ purposes
  • Drive utilisation of e-Procurement tools
  • Monitor market trends and innovation solutions to evaluate feasibility in operations
  • Establishes supplier performance management and development mechanisms and systems
  • Develops key performance indicators to track improvements flowing from implementation

 

Requirements:

  • Relevant degree (Procurement, BCom, Engineering, BSc or similar)
  • Minimum 5yrs experience in Procurement / Category Management / Supply chain
  • Minimum 3yrs experience in the procurement of Information Technology related events
  • Proven ability to effectively manage & negotiate contracts
  • Highly developed interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Strong negotiation, commercial acumen and understanding of the business to enable the support of business strategies and goals with pragmatic and innovative solutions
  • Excellent analytical capabilities to extract insights from gathered data
  • Highly confident with the use of databases, Excel and Project Management Tools
  • Some knowledge of advanced analytical tools and Continuous Improvement process
  • Able to plan work and manage time efficiently in accomplishing role responsibilities
  • Flexibility to adapt to developing situations
  • Strong and effective communication and influencing styles
  • Proven ability to run effective presentation
